Whip this cake drink when you long for a sweet, non -alcoholic drink to cool off after a long day.
I recently learned more about Latin American culture thanks to my nomadic friend, who spent most of his adult life in Central and South America. I found today TamarindA drink that is popular in Mexico and is basically a sweetened Tamarind tea. It’s similar to fresh waterOr “fresh water”, a Spanish umbrella handle that refers to sweet elixirs that are poured over ice. However, this is a little different because it is not just sugar. It also tastes a bit acidic and caramel -like. So if you are looking for a unique drink that dances over the taste buds, this is a great one to try.
While my friend and I dreamed of traveling together to try an authentic version of this drink, we are also incredibly grateful to make it comfortably in our own kitchen. Is the Tamarindo drink healthy?
Since it is too sugar, this is not the kind of drink that comes to swallow every day. However, you can easily replace sugar with an alternative sweetener such as stevia or erythritus to make it sugar -free (although this changes the taste). However, this drink is vegan and the tamarind offers a lot of vitamin C, iron and potassium.
What is Tamarind?
With the appearance of a large brown pea cover, Tamarind is the fruit of the Tamarind tree. This sleeve structure comes from tropical Africa, but can also grow in any climate that is obvious to the equator. Hence the use in India, Thailand and Mexico. Some people compared the taste with a combination of lemon, apricots and data. Talk about the expansion of the palate! This fruit, especially in a sweet drink, can definitely help you expand your horizon.

Tamarindo is great because you can fully make a big jug and keep it in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. I suggest using a covered pitcher or container to keep it fresh longer. Alternatively, you can freeze it in an ice cube tray or a freezing container for up to 3 months. Turn it up in the fridge overnight and serve cold.
Although Tamarindo is traditionally enjoyed as a non -alcoholic drink, you are also welcome to make an “adult” version if you want. Add a recording of tequila, gin or even mezcal (for a smoky taste) for each glass.
Although it is already infused with Tamarinde, you could scatter the flavors with some harmonious mixtures such as Elder Flower, Beetroid root or pineapple juice. The mixture of earthy and spicy flavors can be quite a fiesta in your mouth!

Pour Tamarindo into a glass over ice and garnish with lemon or lime. I also like to coat the edge of the glass with lime juice and pink Himalayan salt for additional flair and taste, which is an entertaining option. Ingredients
- 8 Ounce Tamarinde pods About 15 pods
- 8 Cup Water divided
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar or taste
- Ice optional
Instructions

Remove the outer shells and veins from the tamarind capsules.

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add the peeled Tamarind pods, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove from the stove and let the mixture cool for about 1 hour.

Use your hands to separate the Tamarind fruit meat from the seeds and fibers.

Strain the Tamarind mixture into a pitcher through a fine mesh sieve.

Add the remaining 4 cups of water and sugar into the jug. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Adjust the sweetness to the taste.

Cool in the fridge. If you want to serve over ice.
